9th July 2014: Second anniversary of the introduction of the 'new' family migration rules

The Big Day - 2 year anniversary of rules brought into force on 9 July 2012 which have particularly affected British residents and citizens wishing to sponsor a non-EU partner or elderly dependent relative to join them here.

Event 1: 10am – 11:30am APPG on Migration - MRN event
This meeting will consider the latest evidence about the impacts of the family migration rules across the UK, and will look closely at the position of lower income families outside London. It will follow up the work of the cross-party APPG on Migration inquiry which reported in 2013, to ask how far these rules are compatible with a fair and balanced approach to immigration, and with a family-friendly policy agenda.

Event 3: 6:30 – 8pm Adult Dependant Relative report launch –  JCWI and BritCits event

Adult Dependent Relative rules came into force two years ago which effectively ban elderly relatives joining their adult children in the UK. This report analyses the rules genesis, application and impact on families and children, providing a statistical analysis on the numbers applying and succeeding whilst also looking at Home Office decision making.  This is the first report, procuded by JCWI in collaboration with BritCits, which looks at the ADR rules in detail.
